We believe that children are capable and innately motivated learners. Our research-backed, project-based, emergent curriculum is guided by students’ interests, questions, and curiosities. Through joyful learning and collaborative play, our program is designed to cultivate growth of children’s physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development, as well as their creative problem-solving skills. Our professional and experienced teachers intentionally prepare a creatively stimulating classroom environment and utilize our outdoor setting so children can explore and gain knowledge about the world around them. This close-knit preschool cultivates relationships, which are the foundation of our safe and nurturing learning environment.

We believe:

  • That meaningful early learning experiences deepen a child’s curiosity and desire to learn

  • That an emphasis on social-emotional health helps children become competent and capable

  • That a safe, well-designed classroom gives children the autonomy to learn and explore

  • That the family is the child’s first teacher and a cornerstone of the community

  • That open-ended, loose parts enhance the ability to think creatively and solve problems

  • That the process of art exploration is more beneficial to a child’s development than focus on the product

  • That observation is an important tool for meeting the needs of each child

  • That we are all continuous learners, both learning from children and with children

  • That open communication ensures expectations are set and fulfilled

  • That with strong foundation of policies and procedures, especially in health and safety,

a school can have the flexibility to be innovative, take risks, and strive for excellence

We closely follow Virginia’s Early Learning & Development Standards and derive many lessons using The Creative Curriculum for Preschool to build a strong foundation of discovery, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Each day, teachers use whole group lessons to connect with all of the children to introduce topics and concepts, small group work to meet children where they are individually, introducing ideas and activities that are just the right level of challenging for each child, and choice time to provide children with ownership and autonomy in their learning.
